Report Cards

How do I set my school's board and grading scale, then generate report cards (Report Card Studio)?

Updated 23 Aug 2026

In short

Report Card Studio is where an owner or admin chooses your board (CBSE, ICSE, a State board, or IB) and its grading scale, then produces report cards. Because your board is a setting rather than fixed software, one change updates both your exams and your report cards together, so they can never grade a student on different scales. Percentage (marks-only) boards show marks and percentages, while grade-point boards keep letter grades. Once marks are entered for a class and term, you generate one report card per student, download branded PDFs, and can even auto-draft the class-teacher remark from the student's real results.

Report Card Studio is the one place where your school decides how it grades — the board you follow, your grading scale, your pass mark and your holistic (NEP) domains — and then turns those choices into finished, branded report cards ready to hand to parents.

What makes this different is that in Vidyapeeth360 your board is a setting, not something hard-wired into the software. A State-board school, a CBSE school and an IB school can all run on the same platform, each grading its own way. You choose your board once, adjust the details to match your school's policy, and the system follows — no developer, no support ticket, no waiting.

The biggest benefit is a single source of truth. When you set or change your board and grading, your exams and your report cards update together in the same moment. So a student who clears the pass mark in exams can never show as "failed" on the card — the two can't disagree.

How it works

Your grading is resolved in three layers, from most specific to most general:

  1. Your school's own settings — anything you configure in Report Card Studio always wins.
  2. A ready-made board template — for anything you haven't customised, Vidyapeeth360 uses a curated template for your chosen board.
  3. Sensible defaults — a safe fallback so a card always renders correctly.

Your grading scale type decides how results are shown:

Grade points / numericBoards that award letter gradesLetter grades alongside marks
PercentageMarks-only State boardsMarks and percentages (no letter-grade column)

The scale is locked onto each card the moment it is generated, so a card you print today looks identical if you re-open it next year.

Set your board and grading

  1. Go to Report Cards → Studio (an owner or admin can edit these settings).
  2. Choose your board — CBSE, ICSE, a State board or IB, plus any boards in the library.
  3. Fine-tune your school's profile: grading bands, pass mark, scale type, term schedule, attendance thresholds, academic-year start month and NEP holistic domains.
  4. Save. Your exams and report cards are re-aligned to the new board automatically.

Design your report card layout

In the Studio's Layout tab you can make the card look like your school's:

  • Set the masthead title and add a header note and footer note.
  • Choose an accent colour and add signatories (for example, Principal and Class Teacher).
  • Reorder the sections on the card.
  • Use the live preview to see a sample card — or a real student's card — before you print a single copy.

Generate report cards

  1. Make sure marks are entered for the class and term — this is the one prerequisite.
  2. In Report Cards, choose the class, section and term, then generate.
  3. Vidyapeeth360 creates one card per student, ready to review and download as a branded PDF.

For the holistic side, you can set NEP domain grades (A–E) and a class-teacher remark on each card. Aira can even draft a board-aware remark for you, grounded in that student's actual marks — you review and edit before it is final.

Tips and best practices

  • Set your board and grading before you run exams for the year, so everything aligns from the very first assessment.
  • Re-generating a card is safe — cards come out consistent every time, so you can regenerate after a correction without surprises.
  • Using AI remarks? Treat them as a first draft; a teacher's quick edit keeps the personal touch.

FAQ

Q: If I switch boards mid-year, do I have to re-enter my exam settings?

A: No. Changing your board re-aligns both your exam grading and your report-card grading together, so they stay in step automatically.

Q: Our State board uses marks only, not letter grades. Is that supported?

A: Yes. Choose the percentage scale type and cards show marks and percentages, with no letter-grade column.

Q: Can each school in our group grade differently?

A: Yes. Board and grading are per-school settings, so every school configures its own board while sharing the same platform.
